DSD March 26, 2018: "Long Distance" - Alec King

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music

Long Distance - Alec King

Again, I'm quite excited that we get to talk about tracks the (long) weekend they are being released, and our back-to-back tracks by indie hip hop artist Alec King wrap up today with his other new single "Long Distance", produced by Boston, which you can check out below:

"Long Distance" is a track that is very easy to connect to: King is discussing the stresses, the anxieties, and all of those feelings of trying to make a long distance relationship works, and coming to that (often inevitable) realization that it's not going to work. This is a song that really allows the honesty and emotional grounding of Alec King's vocals to stand out as you feel something; not just because he is telling many of us a story we know all too well, but because he is able to reach across and forge a connection through being an earnest storyteller.
I often like to talk about songs that take you on a journey on the DSD, and I really like how "Long Distance" tells you such a clear story, and you get moving through...what can be a very uncomfortable life event, and come through it (for better or worse) by the end...and yeah, I have to say, that little bit of an uplifting "you know what, I'm moving on" feels pretty good.

If you are looking for more Alec King's solo work, then you are in luck as he will be dropping new tracks every other week for the foreseeable future, including a few new music videos sprinkled in as well, so be sure to check him out on Spotify , SoundCloud, or check out his work on iTunes...

...and of course, if you somehow missed it, we also talked about "Keep It Real" (also produced by Boston) this past Friday, and a couple of his collborations with Danrell like "Bad Dreams" (which was in our Top 5 of 2017), and earlier this year with "Morphine".

The February 2018 DSD Apple Music List and February 2018 DSD Spotify List are available! These ones where admittedly tricky as it is a short month (meaning there are fewer songs for me to build the set with), and we are also missing a couple from the lists: "Coward's Castle" by Monti and "highr" by buuzey. However, I have to say that I do enjoy the playlist this month, and I hope you will check it out (at the links above), and share it with your friends!

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
