DSD February 21, 2018: "highr" - buuzey

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop":'s song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!

highr - buuzey

I'm pretty happy that I get to talk about "highr" by Seattle-based buuzey today because to be honest, I've been talking with him for about 8 months about featuring a track, and today is finally the day, as he just recently dropped his latest electronic/r&b/hip hop blend, which you can check out below:

"highr" is an excellent, mellow blend of R&B and Electronic that wafts out of your speakers in waves; the chill vocals accompanied by a simple, yet effective piano roll sets a vibe that, for me at least, seems to just strip the stress away and I just glide into a slightly better mood with every listen. I dig the fact that buuzey has allowed subtle, lounge hints to work into "highr" as well, as when the more hip hop/electronic influenced beat comes in, everything already feels like its' exactly where it's supposed to be, and creates a real sexy tone.
What I'm saying, I guess, is when you're building one of those late night playlists, you need to be considering "highr".

As I'm pretty sure this will be most of your introductions to buuzey (as he is super, super new), be sure to check out the track that drew my attention oh-so-many months ago, "drive", a blues-y hip hop track that oozes cool, and keep an eye out for more releases it the future.

Here is the January 2018 Apple Music Playlist, and the January 2018 Spotify Playlist for the Daily Song Drop. It seems like we are starting off the month with the traditional "one song is missing" (that being "Board It Up" by Nekokat), but all in all it's a pretty fun list to start the year off!
Plus it was not the usual soul-murdering December/January blended list that always drove me nuts every year with its' "two months" of songs to try and fit together.
Who does that?

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
