Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!
Precious - Donal Quinn
I guess if you are big on Chaucer, Happy St. Valentine's Day...
Irish indie dance/rock artist Donal Quinn makes his return to the Daily Song Drop today (having first appeared back in December 2017) with a bright, summery track called "Precious" (which you can check out below:)
I appreciate the how the Rolling Stones-lite intro to "Precious" makes way quite quickly to a 1980s/island infused indie dance rock track (which might not seem like it makes sense, but it's the only way I can really describe the combination of infectious, under the tiki-lights beat, combined with the electric guitar that Quinn uses here). This is a track that feels like I should be sipping some ridiculous drink served out of a pineapple, wearing the brightest print shirt I own. It's fun, it's summery, and it has just enough repetition to it that it will be sung along to at every theme party you play "Precious" at.
Quinn makes really interesting and diverse sounding music--every single seems to have a completely different vibe, and I am very much looking forward to seeing where he goes next, but again, if you are looking for more (or this happens to be the first time you've heard him aka you're new to the DSD) be sure to check out "Twat" (which I talked about in December, and made my Top 50 Songs of 2017), or for more of an EDM vibe, my favourite of his earlier work is "Feelings".
As promised, here are the January 2018 Apple Music Playlist, and the January 2018 Spotify Playlist for the Daily Song Drop. It seems like we are starting off the month with the traditional "one song is missing" (that being "Board It Up" by Nekokat), but all in all it's a pretty fun list to start the year off!
Plus it was not the usual soul-murdering December/January blended list that always drove me nuts every year with its' "two months" of songs to try and fit together.
Who does that?
If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!
See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.
Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
