DSD December 13, 2017: "Stargirl" - Megan Lilly

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop":'s song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!

Stargirl - Megan Lilly

Today on the Daily Song Drop is a cool, ethereal indie pop-electronic track from Megan Lilly called "Stargirl", which you can check out below:

First and foremost, there is literally no way I could describe the song's tone, and vibe better than what Lilly does herself:

Imprisoned in the image of what a female should be. I can't, won't and do not have any desire to fit the bill. I am not the norm, love me anyway?

I appreciate the fact that "Stargirl" is very vocal heavy (for indie electronic), feeling more akin to a pop song with an organic, warm, slightly dreamy indie electronic vibe. Lilly's got an excellent voice for this style of track, plus, lyrically, a tone of sweet defiance permeates everything to give the track a captivating tone that I really cannot explain; you just need to hear it, and really listen to the cleverly constructed lyrics.

Honestly, I had actually set out to talk about Megan Lilly's first single "Tainted Rosewater" today, but got distracted by how great "Stargirl" is...though I do suggest you check out "Rosewater" as well, as the two tracks together hint at an artist to watch for the near future.

Here is the November Apple Music Playlist, and the November Spotify Playlist! I'm pretty happy with the flow on this one (and it was, for a change, a bit easier to put together thanks to how the tracks fit together). I also feel like this playlist has just the right amount of variation in it to make it awesome for any and all holiday travelling that you may have coming up...

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
