DSD December 12, 2017: "I Stand Corrected" - Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop":'s song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!

I Stand Corrected - Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue

Today we have our first song of 2018 for the Daily Song Drop, with the early single release off of the upcoming, self-titled EP by Brooklyn's Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue (a project from Eric "Doc" Mendelsohn of Ghost Beach) called "I Stand Corrected".

Check out the track below:

I really like how "I Stand Corrected" feels like the artist has taken little bit from a bunch of different, retro tracks, and melted them all together into a funky soul/R&B track: at times the song feels like it's time machined out of the early 1970s, but then Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue (PFRR) spins just a little bit of a modern indie vibe, before letting the track slip back into a funky, bass-heavy R&B. The best thing about "I Stand Corrected" is it provides a brilliant, retro-groove to get you moving along to, but never lapses into feeling like it's tired: PFRR has perfectly layered the track to feel both modern, and familiar, sultry, and a bit tongue-in-cheek, all in a package unlike anything else we have talked about here on the Daily Song Drop (or anything coming out of the indie scene today).

Plus, long-time readers know that I am a sucker for well-produced, fresh, retro-inspired tracks.

If you dig "I Stand Corrected" be sure to check out the other pre-released single "On A Night Like This", and be sure to keep an eye out in 2018 for the release of the full EP.

Here is the November Apple Music Playlist, and the November Spotify Playlist! I'm pretty happy with the flow on this one (and it was, for a change, a bit easier to put together thanks to how the tracks fit together). I also feel like this playlist has just the right amount of variation in it to make it awesome for any and all holiday travelling that you may have coming up...

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
