DSD December 11, 2016: "I Need You feat. Maria Aasen" - Clix

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!

I Need You (feat. Maria Aasen) - Clix

Started this week off with a rare (at least, recently) appearance from a pure, indie electronic track by Norwegian dup Clix called "I Need You" featuring Maria Aasen.

Check the track out below:

What has really made "I Need You" stand out from the indie electronic pack is the beautifully soulful vocals from Maria Aasen-- I get some very serous Lana Del Rey vibes from Aasen here. Giving a lounge-y, soul feel to the vocals also allows Clix to not only play with a chill, acoustic feel for parts of "I Need You", but cleverly juxtapose it against a more pure indie dance beat...which on paper you would not think works (like, if you were just reading this rather than listening to it), but the balance is spot on, and makes the track really something special.

The main trick with it, I think, is that it would need to be a part of a very specific set to spin it, OR as a DJ, you would have to commit to using it to open a later-evening set/transition from chill to dance atmosphere....The more I think about it...there are so few songs that work for that, and work as well as "I Need You" would, that I half-wish I was still spinning so I could work it in to high rotation, because I cannot tell you how many times I needed a song to do exactly what Clix have accomplished here (and making this work, and finding that balance in both layering the track, and production, is no small feat).

However, I, like hopefully most of you, are going to be happy sticking it into some playlists (late night especially) and just letting "I Need You" sweep you away.

Here is the November Apple Music Playlist, and the November Spotify Playlist! I'm pretty happy with the flow on this one (and it was, for a change, a bit easier to put together thanks to how the tracks fit together). I also feel like this playlist has just the right amount of variation in it to make it awesome for any and all holiday travelling that you may have coming up...

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
