DSD February 6, 2017: "Lay Down" - SUMiF

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop":'s song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

"Lay Down" - SUMiF

SUMiF is the moniker of San Francisco based  indie electro-pop musician Steph Wells who released the dreamy and fun "Lay Down" in the summer of 2016. What really stands out to me about this track is the fact that it combines a modern, dream-pop feeling (particularly in the verses) with something akin to an early 2000s pop chorus (with better lyrics than we were largely subjected to way back when).

Trust me: if you are into indie electro-pop, you are only going to need about 30 seconds of "Lay Down" to get you hooked; give it a listen below:

SUMiF has released several singles other than "Lay Down" since 2015, ranging from more of a traditional, dance-electro sound, to more lush tracks (akin to this one), but I have to say I hope she continues to build tracks like "Lay Down" in the new year, and continues to explore the dreamy edges of electro-pop.

I do create playlists for Tuesday Tunes/Daily Song Drop, and the latest one we have released is our Apple Music Playlist for the Top 20 Songs of 2016

With this overhaul, and the fact that we are starting a little ways into February (just with how the dates worked out), you can expect a fancy new playlist featuring all of the indie songs from December AND January this Friday!

See you again tomorrow with another great song!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
