DSD February 16, 2017: "Now & Then" - Plàsi

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

"Now & Then" - Plàsi

Greek born, Swedish raised Singer/Songwriter Plàsi released his debut EP late last year called Now & Then, and the title track is a beautifully simple, and spare piece of indie folk. "Now & Then" is literally just an acoustic guitar, Plàsi's vocals, and some whistling. That's it, and that is all it needs to be, as what ends up happening (to me at least) is a small smile creeps onto my face, and I find myself whistling along.
To be fair, when you listen to the lyrics, they're a lot sadder than that reaction, but at the same time, there's just such a...melancholic sweetness to "Now & Then" that it all just feels right as a reaction.

http://www.plasimusic.com Lyrics: See me as your enemy, or see me as your friend It is 19 months since I was there, and held you in my hand It is 18 since I told you, and you took away my name Now when you saw me, you turned away your head

If you're looking for "Now & Then" with a different feel to it, check out the Tilø & ConKi remix here as it ups the pace, and turns the track into something of a mellow house track. It's a really excellent re-imagining of the song, however I do have a certain soft spot for the original, spare indie folk version....

As you (hopefully) know by now, I always put together all of the songs we talk about on DSD (and formerly on "Tuesday Tunes") into a monthly playlist, with the latest one,  the Dec 16/Jan 17 Playlist, available now!
Remember, if you want me to expand where I put these playlists beyond Apple Music, you just need to let me know on Twitter, and I'll see what I can do.

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
