DSD February 12, 2018: "Sign" - VHS Collection

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music

Sign - VHS Collection

Electronic pop/rock trio VHS Collection have been working together since 2014 and there is a good chance that, if you follow the Spotify charts pretty consistently, you have heard a few of their tracks, however, if you haven't heard of them, I'm pretty excited to be introducing you to some synth-y awesomeness today in their latest track "Sign".

Check it out below:

I always say on the Daily Song Drop that I'm a pretty big fan of when modern groups take retro elements for their music, and then provide an updated twist to it, and that it precisely what VHS Collection does. In "Sign" you are going to get some heavy 1980s electronic (even euro) pop vibes, especially in the chorus, but the use of a modern, indie pop rock structure in the verses creates an engaging and dynamic juxtaposition that melts together into one synth-y slice of awesomeness.
If you are a fan of synth pop, you are going to find a lot to love in "Sign", and I have to say, I would be amazed if this track does not end up being put into a great little indie film soon (as it has just the perfect scale for that).

If this is your first introduction to VHS Collection, then you probably need to check out a few of their earlier releases, including the viral charting "Waiting on the Summer", "Fire" or the sweetly poppy "So I Met Someone", and keep an eye out for the rumored album release that will hopefully happen later this year.

As promised, here are the January 2018 Apple Music Playlist, and the January 2018 Spotify Playlist for the Daily Song Drop. It seems like we are starting off the month with the traditional "one song is missing" (that being "Board It Up" by Nekokat), but all in all it's a pretty fun list to start the year off!
Plus it was not the usual soul-murdering December/January blended list that always drove me nuts every year with its' "two months" of songs to try and fit together.
Who does that?

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
