DSD July 25, 2017: "One Night Only" - The Struts

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

One Night Only - The Struts

Long time readers of the Daily Song Drop (/Tuesday Tunes) is definitely going to recognize English Arena-Glam rock band The Struts as this is now going to be the third time they have been here (first showing up in October 2015, and then again in February 2016 before their debut album Everybody Wants dropped) specifically because I just dig them so damn much. The Struts are probably better known that a lot of the music I talk about on here, and they are just about to go on tour with the Foo Fighters, but I cannot resist a new track by the lads:

Honestly I love the fact that The Struts are basically just saying "fuck it, let's make music like Queen": they have so fully embraced that spectacular, sweeping arena rock on their first album, and "One Night Only" continues building on that. Big guitars, big vocals, big sound and big harmonies all blend together into a song that I wish I was hearing at the Dome right now. The guitar solo is great, and it's just fun, sleazy (in the best way possible) old school rock the likes of which we used to get all the time, but thanks to the fact that they are insanely good musicians, and the fact that they do (on occasion) plant a tongue firmly in cheek in their writing, never feels stale.

At this point, I'm running out of ways to gush about The Struts, and I hope that you take this song (and the rest of their library) out into the world and introduce it to the old school glam fans, the people who still love T. Rex, or (as I keep saying, because everyone I introduce The Struts to says the same thing) Queen, and get them hooked too, because I want to go see them as a headliner in an arena here in North America sooner rather than later.

Here's the June 2017 DSD Playlist! We're only missing one track this month (as is tradition)! This months list was actually one of the harder ones for me to put together into something that feels (at least sort of) cohesive...I'm not sure why, but I am happy with the way it turned out in the end!
I've also heard you, and here it is: theguysfrom playlists are now available on Spotify! You can find us by looking for theguysfrom on Spotify, click on this link for the June '17 Spotify List...I will also embed the last months' playlist on every Friday DSD.

Come on back tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
