DSD May 8, 2017: "Pain (I Wanna Live)" - Tehondi
Shaun Cordingley
Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.
Pain (I Wanna Live) - Tehondi
Chicago based Tehondi is an indie hip hop artist and poet who creates thoughtful, often positive (or even motivational) art and music. "Pain (I Wanna Live)" is a low-tempo track which really lives on its' lyrics; check out the track below:
I really appreciate that Tehondi uses retro video game flourishes within "Pain", and that the beat is chill--the music does, however, largely get out of the way of what he is saying, and that's really where the song shines. Speaking as someone who does suffer from Depression, it's always nice to hear an artist take a stab at talking about what it is like to struggle, and finding those things that keep you going, and keep you grounded in wanting to continue on.
Honestly, I think "Pain" explains a lot of what it can be like better than almost any other way I have heard...and wrapped around that, it's a great song on it's own right.
I do recommend checking out Tehondi's other work as well (especially if you're looking for a song to get into your head and get you going), and keep an eye out for his Sophomore album Truth Ain't Dead which is expected sometime this year.
The DSD Playlist - Apr 17 is now available! We are sadly missing one song from the last month (again), but I'm pretty happy with how this one all came together!
ICYMI (somehow) here is the DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!
See you again tomorrow (with probably another completely different sounding song, so I can hate myself come Playlist time...)

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.
Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
