DSD December 22, 2017: "Porcelain Doll" - AYLA

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music.

Porcelain Doll - AYLA

Australian singer/songwriter AYLA's most recent single "Porcelain Doll" wraps up the Daily Song Drop for this week, and I think it is exactly what we (probably) could all use heading into a super busy weekend.

Check out the song below:

AYLA has an awesome, and unique voice that I think fans of Lana Del Rey are going to find a lot to like, and thankfully, she uses it to great effect in "Porcelain Doll", but in giving the song an emotional weight, but to help emphasize some really excellent songwriting. Lyrically, I really like what she has done here, and this is definitely a song whose chorus I got stuck in my head immediately (I was singing it to myself after the first time I heard "Porcelain Doll", and it is by no means a "simple" chorus). Add on top of that a perfectly balanced, slow-burn of a musical backing (with an occasional guitar riff that I adore), and you have a a really excellent track for your snowy weekend.

Well...hopefully snowy...I like snow....
Anyway...

If you dig "Porcelain Doll", AYLA does have a few other singles for you to check out, with my personal favourite being the lush "Like the Other Kids", and hopefully we will see an album soon.

Here is the November Apple Music Playlist, and the November Spotify Playlist! I'm pretty happy with the flow on this one (and it was, for a change, a bit easier to put together thanks to how the tracks fit together). I also feel like this playlist has just the right amount of variation in it to make it awesome for any and all holiday travelling that you may have coming up...

You can also, as always, just listen to the Spotify list right here:

ICYMI (somehow) here are the October 2017 Apple Music PlaylistSeptember 2017 Apple Music Playlist August 2017 DSD Playlist July 2017 DSD PlaylistJune 2017 DSD Playlist, May 2017 DSD Playlist DSD Playlist - Apr 17DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!

Not to mention the fact that we totally also have a June '17 Spotify List, a July '17 Spotify List, an August '17 Spotify List, the September 2017 Spotify Playlist, and October '17 Spotify Playlist too!

If you're looking for me to add these lists somewhere beyond Apple Music and Spotify (or you want some of the old lists on Spotify), you're going to have to convince me (hard) by chatting with me here, or on Twitter

If you're looking for more great music, are late to the party, or just want more theguysfrom.com in your day, here are the Apple Music playlists for:

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
