DSD December 20, 2017: "Night Walking (feat. Sound Casino)" - Skinny Dipp

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop":'s song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music

Night Walking (feat. Sound Casino) - Skinny Dipp

Today on the Daily Song Drop, I felt like we could all use a warm, chill-out song (like something we would listen to on the beach in summer), and "Night Walking (feat. Sound Casino) by Australian artist Skinny Dipp fits the bill perfectly.

Check out the song below:

I really enjoy how Skinny Dipp has struck a balance between a sort of mellow, indie pop-rock (even occasionally pushing into a Coldplay style sound) with an ambient, downtempo electronic track. These two genres work incredibly well together in "Night Walking" to not only create a song that is perfect for a late-night wind down, but has hints of a summery, warm tone that make it hard not to smile (especially on a chilly winter day). I really appreciate the way that they use snapping fingers and an acoustic guitar to ground the song in an organic feeling, and don't let the electronic elements overwhelm the delicate balance between the pop-rock and electronic.

Plus, let's not kid ourselves, this hectic time of year, I'm positive we all need some more tracks in our lives that will force us to slow down a bit, and savor a few quiet moments.

If "Night Walking" is your first introduction to Skinny Dipp, and you're looking for more chill songs for your holidays, be sure to give " Gasoline" a listen as well.

Here is the November Apple Music Playlist, and the November Spotify Playlist! I'm pretty happy with the flow on this one (and it was, for a change, a bit easier to put together thanks to how the tracks fit together). I also feel like this playlist has just the right amount of variation in it to make it awesome for any and all holiday travelling that you may have coming up...

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or search for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!
