DSD November 3, 2017: "Autre Vie" - By an Ion

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!

Autre Vie - By an Ion

Today to wrap up this week's Daily Song Drop feature, we have the latest release from San Diego based indie electronic duo By an Ion: "Autre Vie"

Check it out below:

"Autre Vie" hits your right away with a lush, cinematic feeling that so few indie electronic artists are able to pull off, but By an Ion have it here in spades. This is a song that feels like it blends elements of dream pop, the 1980s, ambient, and even a little bit of contemporary to create something that feels so sweeping and grand, that it demands to fill whatever space you are listening to it in.

Case in point, as I am writing this, I have my surround sound speakers up and can pretty much feel every note in my floor (sorry neighbours), and it is totally worth it. That strangest part about saying that is, of course, that a lot of "Autre Vie"s roots lie in a more ambient, mellow sound, almost a soundscape, but it's just so well layered and produced that it needs to be loud so you can try and take it all in.

I have to say, I'm pretty excited to see how By an Ion continues to grow, and with an EP not far along the horizon, there should be even more, sweeping ambient pop on the way (and I can't wait).

Y'all aren't going to believe this...but for what feels like the first time ever: both the October 2017 Apple Music Playlist and the October '17 Spotify Playlist have every track we talked about on them.
I'm going to need a few minutes to catch my breath from all the hysterical dancing I've been doing...
That also, for some reason, meant that it was a list that took a little time for me to get together, but once I got the first few songs figured out (always tricky trying to nail down how to start) everything seemed to click right into place.

You can also, as always, just listen to the Spotify list right here:

ICYMI (somehow) here are the September 2017 Apple Music Playlist August 2017 DSD Playlist July 2017 DSD PlaylistJune 2017 DSD Playlist, May 2017 DSD Playlist DSD Playlist - Apr 17DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!

Not to mention the fact that we totally also have a June '17 Spotify List, a July '17 Spotify List, an August '17 Spotify List and the September 2017 Spotify Playlist

If you're looking for me to add these lists somewhere beyond Apple Music and Spotify (or you want some of the old lists on Spotify), you're going to have to convince me (hard) by chatting with me here, or on Twitter

If you're looking for more great music, are late to the party, or just want more theguysfrom.com in your day, here are the Apple Music playlists for:

There are other (earlier) playlists available for you if you check older "Tuesday Tunes" articles, or search on Apple Music itself.

See you again next week!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
