DSD June 16, 2017: "Souvenir" - TeamMate

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

Souvenir - TeamMate

Los Angeles based indie snythpop duo TeamMate recently released their self-titled debut album, and it is packed full with big, meaty pop tracks, with a scale which is hard to believe comes from just two musicians. My personal favourite song off of the album is the softer, yet still dynamic "Souvenir", which you can hear below:

I feel like "Souvenir" really taps into an emotional level that is rare for synthpop; the duo's history (which you should totally go read on their website that I linked above) just elevates every part of this song that little bit more to make it something special.
I really appreciate the piano (big surprise, I know, for long-time readers), but the scope, and the beautifully layered vocals/synth really make this track a standout for me. I feel like one thing, across the whole album, is that you can really feel that it was produced exactly the way it needed to be--TeamMate is at it's best, throughout TeamMate when the scale of the song gets sweeping, and they have found different ways to make that happen across the entire track list without it getting dull.

If you enjoy "Souvenir" make sure you check out the rest of TeamMate, and if you're looking for something with a bit more EDM swagger to it, check out the remix collection for their song "Nothing's Ever Over".

Here's the May 2017 DSD Playlist! We're only missing one track this month (and I'll hopefully be able to add it in later)! It's wonderful, as always, but that should be assumed when I'm making playlists of nothing but songs I enjoy...

ICYMI (somehow) here is the DSD Playlist - Apr 17DSD Playlist - Mar 17 , and there's also one kicking around for DSD Playlist - Feb 17 too!

Remember, if you want me to put these playlists on other services (like Spotify), let me know on Twitter (I've linked it below)

If you're looking for more great music, are late to the party, or just want more theguysfrom.com in your day, here are the playlists for:

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
