DSD March 14, 2017: "Meat On My Bones" - Bad Sounds

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear.

Meat On My Bones - Bad Sounds

Longtime readers of theguysfrom.com's music section will recognize Bad Sounds' funky alt-rock style (especially as I talked about them this past May, and their track "Avalanche" made my Top 20 Songs of 2016), well they're back with more funky indie music in "Meat On My Bones". Bad Sounds' addictive as hell basslines are back, as well as a bit richer (read: fuller) sound around them.

Check out their awesome, animated video below:

This video is a collaboration between us and 4 very different, but equally dope, animators from across the globe. When we found out how expensive it is to make an animation video Callum volunteered to try and learn how to do it. Then half way through he regretted it (cos animation takes f**king ages btw).

I still adore how this band blends genres into a sound all of their own; I enjoy how "Meat On My Bones" makes no mistake in pushing funk influences, but you can also hear a great deal of indie rock in this track, and the lyrics are, as always with Bad Sounds, fascinating and so well constructed that I'll be needing to listen to this track on repeat for a while to just suss everything out.

Bad Sounds has released a few singles by this point (I believe we have spoken now about half of them...unless I missed something), so hopefully we may get a sniff of an album sometime in the near future....but honestly, I can just listen to their singles on repeat too...
If I have to...

Well, I tried my best (...like I actually have control over anything when it comes to Apple Music), and even though we are missing a couple of tracks, the DSD Playlist - Feb 17 is out now, and it's pretty damn great.
Hope you enjoy it too!

Remember, if you want me to expand where I put these playlists beyond Apple Music, you just need to let me know on Twitter, and I'll see what I can do.
