DSD December 4, 2017: "Twat" - Donal Quinn

Shaun Cordingley

Welcome to the "Daily Song Drop": theguysfrom.com's song of the day feature where our resident indie music writer and former DJ Shaun Cordingley features a song every weekday that he feels you need to hear. If you enjoy the track, please share it, so we can keep on talking about great new music!

Twat - Donal Quinn

Irish indie dance artist Donal Quinn's latest release "Twat" is one of the best tell-off songs that I have heard in quite some time...

Check it out below (and obviously, the language is a bit NSFW)

(there's also a radio-friendly version which you can listen to here, but I'm going to be chatting about the unedited version...because that's what I always prefer if I can):

First of all, I have to say that once "Twat" started, it was not at all what I was expecting, particularly as I spent a little bit of time listening to a few of Quinn's earlier singles first...but this track has such a cool vibe to it; a sort of combination of string/piano indie...ballad, but with a production that evokes feelings of a chill DJ'd song. Honestly, I even get a few (strange) Oasis hints in "Twat" (say, Morning Glory era), and that has a lot to do with the 90s tinged vocals, and the story-- this is a track that tells a complex tale about those mixed feelings we all have when moving on from a relationship....and tells it too well.

"Twat" is like the most articulate drunken voicemail on an exes phone you totally  (wish you had never) left, set to a lush ballad, with a perfectly placed, lonely guitar solo.

If you enjoy "Twat"...well a lot of Quinn's earlier work is much more heavily in the EDM camp, but if you are looking for a bit of bounce, I'd suggest giving "Feelings" a listen.

Here is the November Apple Music Playlist, and the November Spotify Playlist! I'm pretty happy with the flow on this one (and it was, for a change, a bit easier to put together thanks to how the tracks fit together). I also feel like this playlist has just the right amount of variation in it to make it awesome for any and all holiday travelling that you may have coming up...

If you're looking for any of our past playlists, be sure to check out a Friday DSD feature, or serach for theguysfrom on either Apple Music or Spotify!

See you tomorrow for our next Daily Song Drop!

The Guys From do not hold the rights to any "Daily Song Drop" songs, it is more our hope to expose our readers to new and different music that we are enjoying, or re-expose them to artists they may have forgotten about.

Above the description of the song will be the song name, followed by the artists' name linked to their website, so you can fall down the rabbit hole, finding and supporting what you dig.
